For the month of February, I'm living in a nearby big town to concentrate on STI education. It's strange to be staying here and not seeing my host family every day. My first few days have been pretty quiet. The weather has been bad and I've been feeling kind of sick. Tomorrow I should be out and about, getting to work.
In addition to the work, I'm taking advantage of the computer and Internet in the house I'm staying in to work on financial aid and scholarship stuff for grad school. Applying takes a LONG time and I'm losing patience for it.
The other big news is that, for some inexplicable reason, I have developed these sores on my chin. They're really a bother. The funny thing is that Moroccans tend to point them out...also, the word for pimples/sores literally means "holes." So I constantly get questions about the holes on my face. I've taken to wearing a scarf.
I'm at a loss for a good blog topic. Any suggestions are appreciated.

- I have worked for the International Development Bank and the World Resources Institute. I graduated from Johns Hopkins SAIS with a Masters in International Relations and International Economics. Before grad school, I worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco. In response to the widespread deforestation occurring in my mountain village, I worked with local hammam (public bath) owners and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines to encourage adoption of energy efficient boiler technology. My work in Morocco was a formative experience as it demonstrated first-hand the importance that natural resource management plays in livelihoods. I chose the title "Natural Capital" because the overarching theme of the blog will be considering the merits and problems with treating the environment as an asset to be invested in based upon its value. The goal of the blog is to provide discussion on this and other topics that is accessible to non-experts. I think there are a lot of good ideas out there, but they're not being communicated as well as they could be.
